For over 20 years I have been researching and writing stories of local
history. When we published the Mountain/Hi-Desert Guide,
I frequently interviewed local pioneers, to capture their stories for
future generations.
As an amateur
genealogist, I always appreciate finding biographies about my ancestors,
either online or at the library. Which is why, I decided to begin
posting a collection of my history articles online.
Posting articles online
has its pitfalls. In 2001 I wrote
Lake Havasu City History, which I published on our
Havasu Magazine
website. When writing that article, I pulled together information
from various sources, including my research in preparing Where the
Road Ends, and from personal experiences. After the article
went online, I found it popping up, all over the internet, including the
popular, free, online encyclopedia site, Wikipedia.
Sometimes the “borrower”
moved a few words around, to give the appearance of originality. Yet,
they usually left large chucks and paragraphs, copying the sections word
for word.
I am in the process
of going through the back issues of Mountain/Hi-Desert Guide,
and I hope to complete the project within a few months. Links to the
articles I have already posted are included below this article.
